FV Hospital launches a comprehensive 12-month Practical Training Programme, providing full scholarships and allowances for newly graduated doctors who have not yet obtained their medical practice licence.
This programme is part of FV’s ongoing training initiatives aimed at supporting young medical professionals, fostering future generations, and strengthening expertise and knowledge within Vietnam’s medical community.
Opportunities to Study and Practice in an International-Standard Medical Environment in Vietnam
Since 2024, FV Hospital has been recognised by the Department of Health as a certified medical facility for providing the practical training necessary to obtain a medical practice licence. In early November, FV Hospital proudly welcomed its first cohort of 12 newly graduated doctors to embark on its comprehensive 12-month practical training programme.
The selected trainees come from leading medical universities in Vietnam, which include the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Vinh Medical University. Upon completing the programme at FV, these young doctors will be qualified to apply for a medical practice licence and embark on their medical careers in Vietnam.
Welcoming the new doctors, Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc – Acting Medical Director of FV Hospital, remarked: “This training programme is one of FV Hospital’s long-term commitments, aimed at providing the next generation with the opportunity to learn and experience working in an international environment. It also reflects the vision of FV’s CEO, Dr Jean-Marcel Guillon, to nurture and develop future medical talent. To support this vision, he has introduced full scholarships and living stipends for doctors and nurses training at FV, enabling them to dedicate themselves fully to their education.”
The internship programme for newly graduated nurses at FV Hospital spans six months, providing an opportunity to practise in a JCI-accredited hospital environment. Young nurses will gain hands-on experience and develop new clinical and paraclinical care skills under the guidance of FV’s experienced healthcare professionals.
Ms Lee Poh Lian, FV’s Nursing Director, shared: “Interning at FV also opens up employment opportunities. Many interns have been offered positions at FV upon completing their internship.”
Ms Mai Thi Huynh Nhu, a former nursing intern who joined FV’s medical team, said: “I chose to continue working at FV after my internship because it provides a modern, professional, and safe working environment. Additionally, the stipend is stable enough to support myself and assist my family.”
In addition to welcoming new graduate doctors and nurses for training, FV Hospital has a long-standing tradition of hosting both local and international students for observation and internships.
Dr Alexander Hebeler, a recent medical school graduate from Germany, chose to intern at FV Hospital in Vietnam this fall, opting for this unique opportunity over staying in his home country or pursuing positions in European hospitals.
After over a month of interning at FV Hospital, Alexander shared that he has gained valuable professional knowledge and practical skills from FV’s doctors, particularly Le Trong Phat, MD, PhD, Head of Bone and Joints Centre.
According to Dr Alexander, interning abroad provides an opportunity to learn diverse and innovative treatment techniques, enhancing clinical experience and supporting his goal of becoming a skilled doctor.
Medical education has long been regarded as a core responsibility of healthcare facilities, complementing their clinical care activities. Over the years, FV Hospital has established cooperation agreements with medical universities, enabling the hospital to host numerous trainees, including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists.
According to Ms Phan Dieu Ha, Human Resources Director at FV Hospital, the hospital regularly welcomes both local and international students from countries such as France, the United States, Japan, and Singapore. These students visit to learn and gain valuable insight into working in a healthcare environment that meets international standards in Vietnam.
“At FV, interns are given the opportunity to participate in training programmes, attend seminars both in person or online, and gain hands-on experience in an international hospital setting that adheres to JCI standards,” shared Ms Dieu Ha.
Connecting the Medical Community, Promoting Scientific Research
As an international hospital with a strong network connecting the medical community locally and internationally, FV regularly hosts Continuing Medical Education (CME) symposiums for healthcare professionals and the wider medical community, featuring esteemed speakers from Vietnam and abroad. These seminars offer doctors and healthcare professionals the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, share experiences within the medical community, and develop more effective treatment solutions for patients.
Since 2024, as a member of the Thomson Medical Group (Singapore), FV has leveraged its connections with renowned experts and doctors from Singapore. These professionals share their knowledge and transfer advanced technologies, enabling the local medical community to access cutting-edge treatment techniques.
According to Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc, Acting Medical Director of FV Hospital, the support from the Thomson Medical Group will enhance and elevate FV’s medical training activities to new heights.
To address the growing demand for advanced education and scientific research among its medical staff, FV Hospital actively supports and facilitates these pursuits. Many young doctors from FV have been sent to leading hospitals in Europe, India, and Singapore to study, exchange expertise, and enhance their professional skills. These efforts have enabled the introduction of innovative treatment programmes and methods to benefit patients.
Several scientific reports by FV doctors, presented at both domestic and international medical conferences, have also earned awards, reinforcing FV’s credibility and expertise in the Vietnamese and global medical community.
