From 1 January 2026, FV Hospital Applies National Health Insurance to All Inpatient, Outpatient and Emergency Services

From 1 January 2026, FV Hospital will officially apply Vietnam’s National Health Insurance (NHI) to all medical examination and treatment services, including outpatient, inpatient, and emergency care. This marks an important step in expanding access to high-quality healthcare at a JCI-accredited international hospital, with the support of state health insurance, and aligns with the Government’s policy direction on strengthening health protection, care and public health outcomes.

Patients Benefit from Significant Cost Reductions and Access to International-Standard Healthcare

After many years of implementing direct NHI payment for inpatient and outpatient treatment in selected specialties, and with encouragement from Ho Chi Minh City’s Health Insurance authorities, FV Hospital became a primary NHI healthcare facility from 1 July 2025, applying NHI coverage to outpatient services.

Continuing this roadmap, from 1 January 2026, patients holding an NHI card, including children under six years old with or without an NHI card, will be eligible for NHI coverage when using services at FV Hospital. These include medical consultations, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, inpatient and outpatient treatment, surgery, medical procedures, medications and medical supplies covered under the NHI benefit list.

Children under six years old receiving inpatient treatment at FV Hospital are entitled to 100% health insurance benefits in accordance with current regulations.

Significantly Reduced Medical Expenses and Tangible Benefits for NHI Patients at FV

When using NHI at FV Hospital, patients benefit from substantial reductions in treatment costs, particularly for surgery and extended inpatient care. They also gain access to a highly experienced medical team in a modern and safe clinical environment, supported by transparent care processes with clear consultation on NHI entitlements and co-payment costs, advanced equipment for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment, and a comprehensive care approach that addresses both medical needs and patient and family support services.

One of the key advantages of using NHI at FV Hospital is cost transparency. From the outset, patients are clearly informed of the portion covered by NHI, any applicable co-payment, and any services outside the scope of NHI should they choose additional options. This approach enables patients to proactively select treatment plans that suit both their medical needs and financial capacity.

Typical Examples of NHI Benefits at FV Hospital

To help patients better understand NHI benefits at FV Hospital, Ms Dao Thi Ngoc Bich, Head of Insurance Services, shared several representative cases:

Dr. Vo Trieu Dat, MsC, Head of the FV Thomson Maternity Department, advises on the comprehensive maternity care programme at FV.

Childbirth at FV: The all-inclusive maternity package at FV starts from VND 45 million. NHI covers approximately VND 2 – 8 million, depending on the patient’s entitlement level. For FV Members from the second consecutive year, FV insurance provides additional coverage of more than VND 11 million with a Priority card and up to over VND 40 million with a VIP card. If the patient also holds private health insurance, such as VietnamCare, PVI, Bao Viet, or Bao Minh, further reimbursement of approximately VND 12 million to over VND 40 million may apply. With these combined benefits, the final out-of-pocket cost may be around VND 20 million or even lower, enabling patients to give birth in a comfortable, safe, international-standard environment at the FV Thomson Maternity Department. This option is particularly suitable for office employees whose employers provide health insurance benefits.

Dr. Ho Minh Tuan, PhD, Head of the Cardiology Department, FV Hospital, is advising a patient on interventional cardiology treatment techniques.

Surgeries involving implants: For coronary interventions with stent placement, NHI covers approximately VND 40 – 80 million, depending on the patient’s condition and the number of stents or balloons used. For hip replacement surgery, NHI covers around VND 30 – 50 million. When combined with private health insurance, patients may only need to pay approximately VND 100 million out of pocket for treatment at FV Hospital.

Cancer treatment with chemotherapy: Treatment typically involves 6 – 12 cycles over approximately six months, depending on the cancer type and treatment protocol. In many cases, NHI can reimburse tens of millions of VND per cycle, on average covering around 20% of the total treatment cost at FV Hospital.

Ms Bich added that, in addition to Vietnamese patients, many foreign residents living in Ho Chi Minh City have recently been able to benefit from NHI coverage when receiving treatment at FV.

FV Hospital accepts health insurance for consultation and treatment for eye conditions, from simple to complex cases.

Hospital-Wide NHI Expansion with No Patient Segregation or Referral Barriers

FV works closely with the Social Insurance Agency to ensure patients’ NHI benefits are applied in full compliance with regulations, in a timely and convenient manner. At FV Hospital, all patients receive care based on the same professional standards and JCI-compliant processes for consultation, treatment, medications and medical supplies, with no discrimination based on payment method or whether NHI is used.

Inpatients at FV Hospital receive 24/7 monitoring and care.

“Each year, FV Hospital receives nearly 250,000 patient visits for examination and treatment. Expanding the application of NHI helps reduce patients’ financial burden while bringing international-standard healthcare closer to the community. NHI does not change the quality of treatment at FV; on the contrary, it supports us in spreading international-standard healthcare quality to the wider public,” shared Dr Jean-Marcel Guillon, CEO of FV Hospital.

In addition to its high professional standards, FV Hospital is recognised for its comprehensive healthcare model that helps patients feel comfortable and well cared for. Nursing and care staff are on duty 24/7, while treatment areas are clean, private and quiet, removing the need for family members to stay and provide care.

Dental treatment is provided in a strictly controlled infection-prevention environment, supported by systematic procedures and a dedicated team of doctors.

The implementation of NHI at FV Hospital delivers direct benefits to patients while helping to reduce pressure on public hospitals, expand access to high-quality healthcare services, and progressively advance the goal of equity in healthcare.

Hospital staff are available to assist and advise patients on their rights and procedures for medical examinations and treatment using health insurance.
