FV Hospital: Leading the Development of the Medical Secretary Profession in Vietnam

At noon on April 25th, 2025, in a warm and lively atmosphere at the 3rd-floor auditorium, FV Hospital hosted the World Secretary’s Day 2025 celebration, recognising the essential contributions of those who work quietly behind the scenes to support the hospital’s daily operations.

Medical Secretaries: An Indispensable Part of Healthcare

The event began with vibrant and creative performances by FV’s medical secretaries, joined by doctors and nurses, energising the entire auditorium. These performances reflected the enthusiasm and dedication that FV’s medical secretaries and administrative assistants bring to their work every day.

The secretary team rehearsed extensively to deliver a captivating opening performance for the 2025 World Secretary’s Day celebration.

In a pleasant surprise, FV’s Board of Directors made an unexpected appearance to personally congratulate all secretaries. During his address, Dr Jean-Marcel Guillon, CEO of FV Hospital, shared: “Your work plays a crucial role in supporting our doctors — from system management and technical assistance to ensuring seamless coordination between departments. Some of you have even gone beyond traditional secretarial duties, stepping into senior coordination roles, demonstrating clear potential for future career development.”

Dr Jean-Marcel Guillon expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the medical secretaries for their quiet yet indispensable contributions to both doctors and patients.

He also proudly reflected on FV’s pioneering role in establishing the medical secretary profession in Vietnam more than 20 years ago. Over the past two decades, FV’s efforts to promote and collaborate with universities on training programmes have helped make this career path an integral part of the healthcare sector in Vietnam.

The Promising Future of the Medical Secretary Profession

This year’s special guest, Dr Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MSc, Specialist Level II and Head of Nutrition & Dietetics Department, delivered an engaging presentation. Drawing on historical insights, cinema references, and compelling statistics, she highlighted the vital roles that secretaries and administrative professionals play worldwide. “Your work greatly supports doctors, and with ongoing advancements in technology, I believe the secretarial profession will evolve further and continue to be an invaluable asset to healthcare,” Dr Thu shared.

Following her speech, Ms Nguyen Thi Hue, OPD Manager and one of FV’s longest-serving staff members, shared a heartfelt message: “Secretaries often face pressure from multiple directions, yet you always find a way to maintain balance and excel. I believe that with your ability to adapt, eagerness to learn, and multitasking skills, your careers will continue to flourish.”

Ms Ngo Vo Xuan Quynh shared a very heartfelt story about her 10-year journey as a medical secretary at FV Hospital

Later in the event, Ms Ngo Vo Xuan Quynh, a Medical Secretary in the Imaging Department, movingly shared her personal journey: “I’ve been with FV for 10 years and will continue to devote myself because of all the small but meaningful things here. I have been through challenging times alongside FV, and what I cherish most is working in an environment where leaders, doctors, and colleagues are supportive and nonjudgmental.”

Medical secretaries, billing secretaries, and more recently, health insurance secretaries, are often the first to support patients on their healthcare journey – from guiding administrative procedures, explaining medical information, recording patients’ needs, to offering reassurance and a listening ear.
FV Hospital extends its sincere gratitude to all secretaries and administrative professionals – your quiet contributions are the driving force behind many operational activities, helping to ensure the best possible treatment outcomes for our patients.

FV is proud to be the pioneering institution that laid the foundation for the medical secretary profession in Vietnam more than 20 years ago.

Though often working behind the scenes, FV’s secretaries, assistants, and administrative staff are essential to our holistic healthcare journey. Their professionalism, patience, and dedication significantly enhance the safe, compassionate, and human-centred care we provide to every patient.
