From July 5 to July 8, 2018, Prof. Donald Tan, a world-leading specialist in treating corneal diseases, will provide consultations and treatments for patients with corneal diseases at FV Hospital, Ophthalmology and Refractive Surgery Department. This is a great opportunity for patients to restore their eyesight at a lower cost than independent overseas treatment.
Prof. Tan uses the latest technique – partial corneal transplantation in which only the diseased layers of the cornea are replaced, and the healthy layers retained. This advanced procedure has a success rate of around 98% as it has a reduced risk of complications and allows better vision than conventional full transplantation.
Prof. Tan is renowned for his advanced corneal transplant research and implementation of a wide range of treatments, including penetrating keratoplasty, deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty, endothelial keratoplasty. He is also skilled at combining penetrating keratoplasty and endothelial keratoplasty with cataract surgery.
The corneas used for transplantation at FV are imported from major eye banks in the US and Singapore, where donated corneas are restored and preserved in optimal conditions. After undergoing surgery with Prof. Tan, patients are cared for by experienced ophthalmologists at FV Hospital.
In May 2016, FV Hospital was granted a practice license for corneal transplantation. Since then, Dr Tan has successfully restored the eyesight of 45 patients at FV.
This collaboration gives patients in Vietnam the opportunity to receive professional care from highly competent specialists using high quality cornea sources while making a substantial saving against undergoing treatment overseas independently.
