FV Hospital Successfully Renews Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification

FV Hospital has successfully completed the certification renewal assessment for compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The evaluation was conducted by the Administration of Science, Technology and Training under the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the National Ethics Committee in Biomedical Research and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health. The assessment team reached a consensus to renew FV Hospital’s GCP certification, noting only a few minor recommendations for further enhancement before the official renewal decision.

GCP, or Good Clinical Practice, is an international ethical and scientific quality standard for clinical trials. It ensures that research is conducted with scientific integrity while safeguarding the rights, safety and wellbeing of trial participants. Achieving this certification not only reflects the transparency and reliability of research data but also reaffirms FV Hospital’s commitment to protecting patients who take part in clinical studies.

This reassessment comes three years after FV first earned its GCP certification in December 2022, marking another important step in strengthening the hospital’s position as one of Vietnam’s leading private institutions in clinical research.

During the 2025 certification renewal, the assessment team recognised FV’s consistent adherence to GCP standards, supported by its internationally benchmarked quality management system. The hospital continues to enhance its procedures, invest in infrastructure, and adopt advanced medical data management technologies. Experts also commended FV’s ongoing efforts to improve research transparency and efficiency.

At the meeting, Dr Nguyen Ngo Quang, Director of the Administration of Science, Technology and Training and Head of the Assessment Delegation, remarked: “The Government is placing strong emphasis on advancing science and technology. We therefore highly value FV Hospital’s efforts, structured investment, and strong research participation.” He also expressed his expectation that FV will broaden international collaborations and develop more multi-centre clinical research projects in the future, enabling patients to access innovative therapies more quickly.

Dr Nguyen Ngo Quang encouraged FV’s younger staff to take an active role in scientific research.

Alongside the assessment, nearly 50 FV staff members — including doctors, clinical pharmacists, technicians, nurses, and members of FV’s Institutional Ethics Committee in Biomedical Research — took part in a training programme on Good Clinical Practice in Clinical Research and Bioethics. Most participants are either currently engaged in, or preparing to take part in upcoming research projects at FV or other centres.

The training was delivered directly by Dr Nguyen Ngo Quang, Assoc. Prof Dr Do Van Dung, Vice President of the Academic Council, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, HCMC; Assoc. Prof Dr Nguyen Vu Trung, Director of the Pasteur Institute, HCMC; and Dr Vo Thi Nhi Ha, Head of the Office of Scientific Research Management and Technology Development, Administration of Science, Technology and Training. The course covered research ethics, clinical trial methodologies, and the development of clinical research centres, providing FV staff with a strong foundation for participation in next-generation clinical studies.

Assoc. Prof Dr Do Van Dung shared valuable insights on scientific research.

Representing FV Hospital, Ms Pham Thi Thanh Mai, Chief Operating Officer, expressed her gratitude to the assessment delegation. “After three years, we are honoured to welcome the delegation once again to review, exchange and collaborate with us in scientific research. With the positive feedback from this reassessment and the support of regulatory bodies, FV will continue to strengthen its research capacity, ultimately delivering tangible benefits to patients.”

Ms Thanh Mai outlined FV’s future research directions.

Following the official confirmation of its GCP certification, FV plans to further expand its clinical trial portfolio, with a particular focus on oncology, while broadening research across other specialties. This expansion offers valuable opportunities for FV’s medical teams to deepen their scientific expertise in collaboration with leading national and international experts. In turn, patients will benefit from earlier access to cutting-edge treatments and investigational medicines, with their safety and rights fully protected.

Since receiving its initial certification, FV Hospital has developed and implemented more than 35 standard operating procedures across multiple departments, including Pharmacy, Oncology, Emergency, Laboratory & Blood Bank, Quality Management, and its Institutional Ethics Committee in Biomedical Research. Building on this foundation, the Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre has been able to participate in research on next-generation lung cancer therapies, providing patients access to modern treatments under close medical supervision, while helping to ease their financial burden.
