Almost one third of people who have been infected with COVID-19 experience symptoms that last for months. Typical post-COVID-19 symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, joint pain, heart palpitations, loss of smell or taste, impaired memory, poor concentration, insomnia, anxiety disorders and other psychological problems. These sequelae affect health, as well as the patient’s quality of life. To help identify the condition and cause of post-COVID-19 symptoms, FV Hospital is implementing a general health check-up programme to support patients in managing long-term sequelae until recovery.
”POST-COVID-19” – A HEALTH CONDITION THAT DESERVES ATTENTION
There are over 150 symptoms associated with Post-COVID-19, especially in patients who have undergone intensive care. According to Ho Minh Tuan, MSc, MD, Head of Cardiology and Head of COVID-19 Treatment Department at FV Hospital, post-COVID-19 symptoms may appear after recovery, or even one to two months later. “It’s essential for patients who have had SARS-COV-2 to self-monitor their health after recovery for early detection of post-COVID-19 symptoms,” Dr Ho Minh Tuan emphasises.

Typical post-Covid-19 symptoms include such as low-grade fever, shortness of breath, prolonged cough, fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain, hair loss, pulmonary fibrosis, heart palpitations, palpitations, endocrine disorders, blood clots, digestive disorders, taste or smell disturbances and rashes. Some may disappear automatically, however, many symptoms lead to other dangerous diseases of the heart or respiratory tract. Being “post-COVID-19” can also cause many neurological effects such as psychological disturbances, decreased concentration, anxiety, depression, restlessness, forgetfulness, inability to concentrate, sleep disturbances, brain fog, and rapid mood swings. For people with pre-existing medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and chronic bronchitis, a COVID-19 infection is more likely to be more serious with a longer recovery period.
Dr Minh Tuan comments: “Most of the patients hospitalised for COVID-19 treatment are at high risk for post-COVID symptoms, compared with just 20 to 30 per cent of patients with mild COVID-19 who self-treated at home.” The number of people affected by post-COVID-19 syndrome is significant.
EARLY EXAMINATION, TIMELY CONTROL OF COMPLICATIONS
Due to the high prevalence of post-COVID-19 conditions and the wide range of clinical manifestations, the establishment of a comprehensive, diverse assessment programme is essential for disease control. FV Hospital is implementing a special Post-COVID-19 Health Check-up Programme with three options for care, suitable for a variety of patients.
- Standard Programme: suited to patients with few or no symptoms of Post-COVID-19.
- Extensive Programme: designed for patients with more pronounced ear, nose, and throat symptoms who need more in-depth examination.
- Comprehensive Programme: for patients with multiple symptoms and damage to multiple organs due to COVID-19 infection, most of whom have been hospitalised for COVID-19 treatment.
FV’s Post-COVID-19 Check-up programme also focuses on certain functions and organs in the body, particularly areas heavily affected by COVID-19 disease, such as the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Examination packages will provide reports from overview to details, helping doctors accurately assess the patient’s condition after contracting COVID-19, and doctors will also propose a treatment plan, or have a plan to monitor and control symptoms optimally for the patient. In particular, all patients will be examined by and consult with a nutritionist to establish an appropriate nutrition regimen to help improve their physical health and natural immunity.
The examination programme will be thoughtfully and conveniently arranged at FV’s modern, luxurious Health Check-up Centre with patients’ comfort in mind.
