At 10:00 AM on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, FV Hospital officially launched the MedTalks series with the inaugural session titled: “Treating Enlarged Prostate with Embolization: A Minimally Invasive Surgical Alternative.” The event attracted a strong turnout of patients and community members, offering practical medical insights and an opportunity for direct interaction with FV’s medical experts.
This inaugural session marks the beginning of the MedTalks series, which FV Hospital will hold every two weeks. The programme will cover a wide range of medical subjects, including cardiology, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and more. The series is designed to provide accessible, up-to-date medical knowledge to both the community and healthcare professionals, helping improve access to accurate, high-quality health information – completely free of charge.
Modern, Minimally Invasive Treatment Explained by an Expert
Through the session, Dr Huynh Huu Danh shared valuable medical insights on the treatment of enlarged prostate.
During the session, Dr Huynh Huu Danh – an expert from the Imaging and Interventional Radiology Department at FV Hospital, shared practical medical insights into the condition of enlarged prostate. Drawing on his extensive experience in interventional radiology, Dr Danh helped participants gain a clearer understanding of this common condition affecting middle-aged and older men, which causes symptoms such as difficulty urinating, frequent nighttime urination, and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. He also highlighted the potential complications of delayed treatment, including acute urinary retention, urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and even kidney damage.
PAE – A Minimally Invasive Embolization Technique for Treating Enlarged Prostate
The solution introduced during the event was Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE), a minimally invasive procedure performed by an interventional radiologist.
Instead of surgically removing part of the prostate, this technique involves inserting a small catheter into the arteries that supply blood to the prostate. Tiny microspheres are then released through the catheter to block these arteries. As blood flow to the prostate decreases, the enlarged prostate shrinks, relieving pressure on the urethra and significantly alleviating urinary symptoms.
Key advantages of this treatment include:
- Minimally Invasive: No open surgery, no large incisions, less pain, and faster recovery time.
- Safe and Effective: High success rate, significant symptom improvement, and reduced risk of complications such as erectile dysfunction or retrograde ejaculation often seen with traditional surgery.
- Short Hospital Stay: Most patients are discharged within 1–2 days.
- Suitable for a Wide Range of Patients: Ideal for those who are not suitable candidates for surgery or prefer a non-surgical solution.
Notably, this procedure at FV Hospital is covered by Vietnam’s national health insurance, with reimbursement of up to 50% of the treatment cost.
At the end of the session, many participants asked practical questions about diagnosis, procedure preparation, and post-treatment care. Dr Danh answered these questions thoroughly and clearly, helping attendees better understand the indications for treatment as well as key considerations before and after the procedure.
The event attracted a large number of staff members, patients, and doctors, who actively participated and asked insightful questions about enlarged prostate.
More than just a platform for sharing medical knowledge, MedTalks serves as a bridge connecting patients and their families with experienced doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals.
The friendly and open discussion, while maintaining scientific accuracy, helped foster reassurance and trust among attendees. This reflects the programme’s goal of making modern medicine more accessible and understandable for the community.
Through this initiative, FV Hospital reaffirms its commitment to fostering a healthier, more proactive community – empowering individuals with accurate medical knowledge to take charge of their own health and that of their families.
As a token of appreciation, attendees also received special gifts from FV Hospital.
