FVH’s Maternity Ward, located on the hospital’s fifth floor belongs to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, reopened in February 2022 following a top to bottom renovation. These newly upgraded facilities, staffed by a team of skilled, experienced experts, are fully equipped to offer comprehensive mother and baby care services. This investment ensures that FVH and this Department can continue to offer world-class services for patients.
On the first day that the Maternity Ward area was put into operation, Ms Pham Thi Thanh Mai, COO, emphasised: “The facilities at Obstetrics & Gynaecology are now of the highest quality, yet all of us know that this department’s most valuable asset is the people working here.” Employing the best people has always underpinned all activities and all mother and baby care services have been offered by professional, friendly staff since the department’s inception.
Luxurious facilities in the Maternity Ward
Planning to have a baby is often considered one of the greatest “projects” of a person’s life. It’s a great joy for the Department’s staff to be a part of this special journey, helping to optimise the health of mothers-to-be and their partners prior to becoming pregnant. The team accompanies the mother throughout her pregnancy, and wholeheartedly supports her during delivery and while caring for the new-born. For this reason, the upgrading of facilities in the Maternity Ward – a key component of offering premium quality maternity services – has been meticulously overseen by Department members.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Trang, Head Midwife – Maternity Ward, shared: “Service packages, care processes, and equipment renewal are all built on the safety of and benefit to mothers and babies. Our midwives are very well trained and continuously undertake new training courses so that they are fully equipped to respond to any situation.” When planning the renovation of the Maternity Ward, its staff members actively reviewed each stage and provided feedback to ensure it was ideally designed so that they could best discharge their duties, as well as meet the patient’s needs. For example, every detail, such as the location of power outlets, the call buttons and toilet equipment, was adjusted so that heavily pregnant women could use amenities easily.

Taking care of mother and baby in a single location is a leading advantage of FV Obstetrics and Gynaecology. According to Ms Trang, thanks to the multi-specialty model available at FV, the baby does not need to be separated from the mother after birth, and paediatricians and obstetricians can directly examine and monitor the health of both mother and baby at this Department. This helps mothers to feel comfortable and relaxed as they can be close to their babies for the duration of their stay before being discharged.
Quality requirements at Obstetrics and Gynaecology are not only reflected in taking impeccable care of mothers and babies within “a space which resembles a five-star resort”, but also by helping them to reduce their hospital stay and when returning home, continue to receive the support of FV’s team.
For example, before being discharged from the hospital, midwives will instruct mothers on how to take care of their incisions and other elements related to personal hygiene. However, some pregnant women are dissatisfied when midwives don’t take care of these tasks, but instruct patients how to do on their own. “The medical staff can do these tasks extremely easily and it takes them less time than instructing the patient. However, if they do so, new mothers will find it much more difficult upon returning home when they have to manage all tasks themselves. Therefore, I still advise our care team to try to explain and continue this process, as it is much more beneficial for the patient,” Trang explained.
In keeping with FV’s commitment to patient-centred care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology offers a 24-hour hotline. Midwives at FV understand that new mothers often face many difficulties and have many questions regarding taking care of themselves and their baby when they return home. “Answering any call, our midwives might need to offer a step-by-step guide for a specific care need, recommend that they see a doctor, or just offer encouragement to help new mothers through the often-confusing time after giving birth. The midwives here all do this job exceptionally well,” Ms Trang explains.

This new upgrade in facilities ensures patients have a positive first impression and experience. However, recognising the real needs and difficulties of the patient, and adjusting and building the care process accordingly, will allow FV to offer sustainable service quality. Each individual at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is aware of this and will continue to improve in order to create the best experience possible for pregnant women visiting FV.
