Patient Safety Week 2025 – Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child

Patient Safety Week 2025 at FV Hospital concluded on 19 September after five days of engaging activities, providing patients and staff with valuable knowledge and lasting impressions.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration Delivers Comprehensive Care for Children

This year’s event followed the global theme launched by the World Health Organization (WHO): “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child,” with the slogan “Patient Safety from the Start!” It also provided an opportunity for the FV medical team to reflect on their core responsibility: ensuring safety at every stage of care, especially for the most vulnerable patients: newborns and young children.

In her opening remarks, Dr Nguyen Thi Dieu Huyen, MSc, Head of Paediatrics & Neonatology, emphasised: “Newborns and young children are the most vulnerable, so in medicine we must always provide the very best and most meticulous care for them. I believe that this year’s Patient Safety Week will be an opportunity for all healthcare professionals to share, learn, and spread useful knowledge to better care for children’s health.” Her message, along with other contributions, set a tone for strong commitment and inspired enthusiastic participation from both patients and staff, marking the beginning of a week of meaningful activities.

Among the highlights were the Patient Safety Seminars held on 15 and 18 September which attracted strong participation. Dr Ho Xuan Anh, Deputy Head of Paediatrics & Neonatology, presented on “Early Recognition of Clinical Deterioration”, sharing guidance on identifying early clinical warning signs when a child’s condition worsens. Meanwhile, Dr Vo Trieu Dat, Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, followed with a talk on “Safe Childbirth and Postpartum Care”, offering practical knowledge to help ensure safety during childbirth and throughout the postpartum period.

Ms Nguyen Thi Khanh Van, Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor, shared how FV Hospital safeguards medication use for newborns and children, while Ms Tran Thi Thanh Trang, Head Midwife, presented on essential care for children during their earliest years of life. Together, these talks not only provided highly specialised knowledge but also introduced new approaches to multidisciplinary collaboration, strengthening connections between doctors, nurses, parents, and the community to ensure child safety.

The two Patient Safety Seminars on 15 and 18 September shared valuable knowledge on child care with the community.

“Listening to the Voices of Children is the Top Priority”

The event booth at the Indochine Lobby was filled with interactive activities. A highlight was the Poster Design Contest, themed “Child Safety – Everyone’s Responsibility”, which drew creative entries from multiple departments. The posters not only conveyed patient safety messages visually but also showcased the diverse perspectives of FV staff. In the end, the Nursing Team from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU & NHDU) won the first prize, with the Outpatient Department (OPD) Nursing Team and the Biomedical Engineering Department taking second and third place.

The poster design contest attracted strong participation across departments, showcasing entries that were both creative and meaningful.

Games such as the Mystery Box – “How Much Do You Know?” and the “Four Child Safety Stations” challenge also drew enthusiastic participation. Hundreds of visitors reviewed knowledge on hand hygiene, infection prevention, nutrition, and neonatal care, while enjoying the chance to receive exciting gifts.

The Closing Ceremony on 19 September at the 3rd Floor Auditorium concluded the week in a formal yet connected atmosphere. Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Mr Mohd Fazli Shuib, Director of Quality & Risk Management and Head of Pharmacy, emphasised that the journey of patient safety does not end with this event. The commitments and knowledge gained throughout the week will be the foundation for FV to continue enhancing service quality, particularly in the care of newborns and young children. “We encourage collaboration from parents and the community in the journey of caring for children. Patiently listening to the voices of children will help improve their care—and that must always be the top priority,” Mr Fazli shared.

With the enthusiastic participation of patients, staff, and the community, Patient Safety Week 2025 concluded successfully, serving as a reminder that patient safety remains the top priority.

With such strong engagement from all involved, Patient Safety Week 2025 concluded with a clear message: patient safety, especially for children, is everyone’s responsibility. Together with FV Hospital, we can continue this journey of safety, delivering world-class healthcare at the best possible cost for all.
