For two days, 30th June and 1st July 2015, Associate Professor Jodhbir Singh Mehta, Head of Corneal and External Eye Disease Services, Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), will be offering examination and consultation services to patients at FV Hospital’s Ophthalmology. This is a chance for patients affected with corneal diseases due to congenital conditions, injuries or infection, among other eye problems, to consult a leading corneal specialist.
Associate Professor Jodhbir Singh Mehta, a member of the Asian Corneal Society (ACS), the Singapore-Malaysian Ophthalmology Society and Royal College of Ophthalmologist UK (RCofOUK), is recognised as one of the most experienced global specialists in the latest transplant techniques, such as:
- Penetrating keratoplasty
A procedure consisting of full-thickness replacement of the cornea – the dominant procedure for more than half a century) - Lamellar keratoplasty
An advanced treatment technique for treating congenital keratoconus or anterior corneal scars. This procedure selectively replaces corneal endothelium in patients with endothelial disease, which involves replacing damaged layers of the cornea with healthy corneal tissues from a donor while the undamaged cornea is preserved, eliminating the risk of endothelial rejection. - Ocular surface reconstruction
- Artificial cornea (keratoprosthesis) surgery (Boston K-pro)
Due to these advanced procedures, many patients suffering from corneal blindness have been successfully treated and their vision improved.
