One of the most familiar and valued faces among Khmer patients at FV, Ms Thach Thi Cham Papic, Cambodian Interpreter, has devoted over 11 years to supporting the hospital with dedication and professionalism. Her commitment, eagerness to learn, and adaptability have earned her a place among FV’s Shining Stars.

Starting at FV as a patient advisor for Khmer-speaking patients, Ms Papic quickly became known for her responsibility, honesty, and patient-first approach. When she later transitioned to an official interpreter role, she found where she truly belonged: “I once wanted to become a teacher, but after working as an interpreter, I realised this is the job that truly suits me,” she shares.

As a hospital interpreter, Ms Papic serves as both a language bridge and a supportive companion, offering reassurance and emotional support to patients in challenging moments. While medical terminology is often complex, she explains it clearly, and, above all, truthfully. Her careful, accurate approach helps Khmer patients feel confident in their treatment and enables the medical team to deliver effective care.

One of the biggest challenges of this role is the lack of technical terms in Khmer. Many diseases, glands, and organs do not have established names in the language. Ms Papic must self-study, consult doctors, and research to explain mechanisms in ways patients can understand, especially when they are anxious or alone. This process has helped her grow, stay calm, and become more confident in handling complex situations.

Beyond her daily role, FV has also been present through major milestones in her life: marriage and childbirth, and safely overcoming COVID-19 during pregnancy with full support from the hospital team. “Working at FV has given me more than just a job; I have gained knowledge to help my loved ones, support from colleagues, and many lasting memories,” she says.
