On August 28, 2017, two Senior Consultants from the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), Dr Lee Shu Yen and Dr Laurence Lim, will provide examinations and treatment for patients affected with vitreo-retinal diseases at FV Hospital’s Ophthalmology Department.
Dr Lee Shu Yen and Dr Laurence Lim are renowned for their profound experience in adult and paediatric vitreo-retinal diseases, including:
- Proliferative vitreo-retinopathy
- Age-related cataract degeneration
- Macular degeneration in elders
- Diabetic retinopathy, macular disorders (macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachment, myopic macular degeneration, etc.)
- Retinopathy of prematurity in children (ROP)

Dr Lee Shu Yen obtained her postgraduate degrees in Ophthalmology in 2004, concurrently completing a two-year fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at SNEC and Lions Eye Institute (Australia). Currently, she is a senior consultant at SNEC Vitreo-Retinal Department.
Dr Lee’s research interests include retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, the retinal complications of myopia and gene therapy for retinal disorders.
She is also director of Undergraduate Education for the Academic Clinical Programme for Ophthalmology at the SingHealth/Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.
Dr Laurence Lim graduated with a Medical Degree from the National University of Singapore in 2002. Upon graduation, he subsequently completed his residency at SNEC where he was appointed chief resident. He was then recognised as the best candidate from the pool of resident doctors to stay as a permanent member of the Vitreo-Retinal Department. Dr Lim is currently a senior consultant at SNEC Vitreo-Retinal Department.
Dr Lim’s research interests include macular degeneration, choroidal neoplasm, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and retinopathy of prematurity in children. In addition, he is also known as a master of cataract surgery.
A keen and active researcher, Dr Lim is the Principal Investigator in several studies funded by the National Medical Research Council. In recognition of his expertise, he has been invited to speak at various regional and international meetings.
