World-leading Corneal Expert Prof. Donald Tan Offers Treatment To Restore Eyesight At Fv Hospital

From October 12 to October 14, 2018, Prof. Donald Tan, former President of the World Corneal Society, will perform corneal transplants for patients with corneal ulcers, corneal dystrophy and corneal scarring at FV’s Ophthalmology and Refractive Surgery Department.

Prof. Donald Tan is a world-leading specialist in treating corneal diseases and a master of advanced corneal transplants to restore patients’ vision, such as the osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis (OOKP) technique – known as “tooth in eye” surgery – for those with severe corneal damage.

Prof.Donald Tan is renowned for his specialist expertise in penetrating keratoplasty, deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty and endothelial keratoplasty. He is skilled at combining penetrating keratoplasty and endothelial keratoplasty with cataract surgery.

Prof. Donald Tan also offers partial corneal transplants, where the damaged corneal layers are removed and normal layers retained – a graft technique which has a 98 per cent chance of success and reduces the excretion rate to one per cent, minimises complications and provides better visual acuity than normal corneal transplants.

The corneas used for transplantation at FV are imported from major eye banks in the US and Singapore, where donated corneas are restored and preserved in optimal conditions. FV is committed to offering its patients more opportunities to regain their eyesight at a lower cost than seeking treatment overseas.

As a JCI-accredited, international-standard hospital, FV is has many strengths. It is equipped with modern machinery and staffed by an expansive team of specialist, experienced doctors whose skills span most disciplines. FV is also proud to offer meticulous, dedicated pre- and post-surgical care, so that our patients can feel completely assured of receiving world-class care from initial consultation to full recovery.
