On May 13, 2023, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital organised a scientific seminar titled “Chronic Pain” with the participation of many experts, doctors, and medical students in the Hue region and doctors from FV Hospital. This event is part of the collaboration and development plan between FV and hospitals in Vietnam, focusing on the Pain Clinic and Departments.
At the seminar held at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, over 100 attendees had the opportunity to listen to experts from both domestic and international backgrounds sharing insights on the topic of chronic pain. They gained a deeper understanding of the mechanisms and current treatment methods. Dr Louis Brasseur, Head of the Pain Clinic, FV Hospital, emphasised the complexity of the mechanism of chronic pain, in which pain is influenced by various factors, including biological, psychological, and social factors.

“This is a new and promising field, and I hope it will receive the attention of doctors from various specialties, as well as from patients,” shares Dr Louis. He also mentioned that the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) has changed the definition and approach to managing chronic pain, adopting a multidisciplinary and multimodal approach to provide better, long-lasting, and safer treatment for patients.
The experts also discuss the necessity of establishing multidisciplinary pain treatment centres in hospitals. The seminar also received many questions, concerns, and shared experiences from the attendees related to the topic. Through practical experience, FV Hospital’s doctors shared their experiences in building the Pain Clinic and addressed various inquiries regarding methods and techniques for managing chronic pain.
Dr Nguyen Van Minh has high hopes for the future development of pain treatment.

Through similar programmes, the Pain Clinic, FV Hospital hopes to contribute to updating new knowledge in this field and reach out to other healthcare facilities within the country. This can help doctors to enhance the quality of patient care and better meet the healthcare needs of the people. Additionally, it can contribute to the development of pain treatment in Vietnam.
