Dr Basma M’Barek, Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, has officially taken up the role of Chairperson of the Medical Advisory Board (MAB) at FV Hospital, opening up the new challenge and opportunity in her career. With over 5 years of career development in a new land – Vietnam, possessing solid professional knowledge, Dr Basma has demonstrated talent and passion for treating and improving the quality of life for many cancer patients.
Before joining FV Hospital, Dr Basma accumulated valuable experience over 18 years at leading healthcare institutions in France; from Gustave Roussy Cancer Hospital to the role of head of the cancer unit at Le Raincy Montfermeil Hospital, and over 5 years here as the Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, she has demonstrated collaborative leadership with the medical team in the department, as well as coordinating with colleagues inside and outside the hospital with an unwavering spirit of continuous improvement in all aspects to provide the best quality treatment for patients.
When elected as the Chairperson of the Medical Advisory Board for the term 2023 – 2025, Dr Basma expressed distinct gratitude to all colleagues who trusted and supported her in taking on this new role. She emphasised, “I also hope that in the future, there will be many doctors contributing their voices through the Board to create a strong coherent FV medical community.”
Do Trong Khanh MD, PhD (FV Hospital, Medical Director) commented: “Dr Basma is not only an expert with extensive professional knowledge but also a person with vision and impact for positive change in the medical community. Where Dr Basma is involved, there is always brilliance. Therefore, I am very hopeful for her new role on the Medical Advisory Board at FV.” Dr Khanh also mentioned that the Medical Office will continue to support Dr Basma in both the managing of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre and building a strong medical community at FV.
In over 5 years of working at Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, Dr Basma has focused on implementing a series of improvements in cancer treatment, especially through utilisation of radiotherapy treatments. The preparation and training of the staff have enabled the centre to deploy the most advanced radiotherapy techniques today, such as Whole-Body Irradiation (TBI), Brachytherapy, Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT/SRS), Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT). Combining the multidisciplinary strengths at FV and comprehensive care processes, Dr Basma has built one of the leading cancer treatment centres in Vietnam.
The anticipated support from Thomson Medical Group (TMG) has been a great encouragement for Dr Basma and the medical team at FV. She believes that, with positive and innovative support from TMG, her upcoming plans will be successfully implemented, thereby enhancing the ability treat patients and promoting the sustainable development of FV Hospital.
In her career to date, Dr Basma M’Barek has been and continues to be a role model for work dynamism and solidity in professional knowledge. As Dr Khanh mentioned – she is still as energetic as the first day she arrived at FV with that spirit, Dr Basma will continue to be a source of motivation not only for many patients but also for the development of the medical community at FV and the field of cancer-care in Vietnam.
