MILLIONS OF UNINSURED PATIENTS BENEFIT FROM FV HOSPITAL’S 20% SUBSIDY PROGRAMME

The hospital’s Board of Directors noted that FV has implemented this subsidy policy since its establishment to support Vietnamese patients in accessing international-standard medical services, although it remains relatively unknown to many.

FV Has Provided $85 Million in Subsidies to Patients Over the Past 21 years

For decades, Mrs L. endured episodes of heart pain, breathing difficulties, and mobility challenges. Despite seeking treatment at various facilities, no cure was found. At times, Mrs L. would faint, and her family had to rush her to the emergency room.

Living as a farmer and selling vegetables at a local market in a rural An Giang province, Mrs L.’s family had a modest income. Years of medical expenses and medication costs placed a constant financial strain on them. Despite this, Mr N.D., Mrs L.’s husband, shared how the family worked tirelessly to pursue treatment for her.

During a severe episode of her illness, Mrs L. was rushed to Ho Chi Minh City for emergency care. A medical expert recommended Ho Minh Tuan, MD, PhD, Head of Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at FV Hospital, as a highly regarded specialist. Following this advice, the family decided to transfer Mrs. L. to FV Hospital for consultation and treatment under Dr Tuan’s care.

At FV Hospital, Mrs L was diagnosed with congenital coarctation of the aorta. To treat the condition effectively, Dr Ho Minh Tuan performed a stent placement procedure to widen the narrowed section of her aorta. This advanced technique required a highly skilled physician to position and secure the stent accurately. Three days after the treatment, Mrs L. was discharged with significantly improved health: no more shortness of breath, no chest pain, and the ability to walk with ease.

At first, when the family of Mrs. L. learned that FV Hospital was an international hospital, they felt anxious, fearing they wouldn’t have enough money to cover the medical expenses. They gathered all their savings and borrowed from relatives and neighbours before traveling to Ho Chi Minh City. However, they were pleasantly surprised when the hospital informed them that Mrs. L. qualified for FV’s 20% subsidy programme for patients without private health insurance, along with partial coverage from Vietnam’s national health insurance. The family was both relieved and overjoyed.

“I’m very happy to receive 20% subsidy from FV Hospital. The doctors and staff here are skilled, kind, and dedicated. Getting treated here is truly worth the cost!” Mrs L. shared emotionally before her discharge.

Mrs L. is one of millions of patients who have benefited from FV’s financial support policy over the past 21 years. This compassionate and practical policy supports patients without private health insurance, though it remains relatively unknown to many.

Relentless Efforts to Bring International Healthcare Within Reach for More Patients

From the outset, FV’s management team envisioned creating an international-standard hospital in Vietnam with pricing accessible to a broad range of people. Dr Jean-Marcel Guillon, CEO of FV Hospital, highlighted that FV Hospital’s prices are 50% lower than those of international hospitals in neighbouring countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia, and only about 30% of the costs charged by hospitals in Singapore. This affordability is achieved through two key factors: Vietnam’s lower operating costs and the management team’s commitment to maintaining moderate profit margins.

“From day one, we established three pricing policies.” Dr Jean-Marcel Guillon explained. “The first applies to those with international insurance, typically foreigners living and working in Vietnam, and follows the reimbursement rates stipulated by international health insurance providers. The second applies to patients with private health insurance, who benefit from package-based pricing. The third is for those without private health insurance or with only national health insurance. This last group also benefits from FV’s financial support policy, with prices approximately 20% lower than those for the second group. This policy is designed to make it easier for Vietnamese patients to access treatment in an international hospital environment.”

Starting in January 2025, FV Hospital will implement a medical fee instalment programme for all patients, in addition to the existing 20% subsidy programme for those without private health insurance. This new policy offers patients greater flexibility in managing medical expenses, helping to ease the financial burden from the outset of treatment.

Over the past 21 years, despite inflationary pressures and the continuous rise of the US dollar, FV Hospital has remained committed to maintaining its financial support policy for patients. “We prioritize providing international-quality healthcare services at affordable prices, so that Vietnamese people can easily access them. Therefore, despite rising costs for medical supplies, medicines, and other expenses, FV has strived to maintain reasonable prices and financial support policies to assist patients, which is essential, especially in the context of economic difficulties,” emphasized Dr Jean-Marcel Guillon.

To further support patients, FV Hospital is preparing to cover state health insurance for outpatient services, emergency care, and day treatment starting from July 1, 2025. From January 1, 2026, state health insurance coverage will be officially extended to include all inpatient and outpatient services.

With a variety of patient support policies, FV Hospital aims to alleviate concerns about treatment costs, ensuring that local residents can access international-standard healthcare without the need to travel abroad.
