With over 20 years of dedicated service to the FV building, Mr Pham Van Tien, a Senior M&E Technician – Building Maintenance, has earned the prestigious award of FV Shining Star once before. However, even this recognition has occurred multiple times, each remains profoundly meaningful to him.

Mr Tien – the shining star of November 2023 – started his work on the electrical and water systems at FV even before the hospital officially opened. “FV, at that time, represented the most modern systems in the city, and even the South,” proudly shared Mr Tien. Joining FV not only fulfilled his economic desire it also proved to be an attractive working environment for a technical professional.

In the initial years of operation, Mr Tien and his team paid little attention to working hours. The excitement and novelty of their roles fuelled their enthusiasm. Reflecting on those days, Mr Tien expressed, “Back then, my focus was solely on completing the tasks at hand, not on watching the clock. Consequently, I found working at FV both comfortable and motivating.” He also recalled situations when he needed to rush between Di An and District 7 to urgently repair malfunctioning systems. Although such events are now well-managed, they remain lessons and valuable memories for Mr Tien.

To this day, the equipment continues to operate smoothly, partly thanks to the rigorous maintenance process implemented by the Building Maintenance Department. Moreover, the vision from the project’s inception, encompassing investment, construction, material and equipment selection, has ensured sustainability and have met the demands far exceeding those of 20 years ago.

However, for a project now considered “old” at 20 years, signs of deterioration have gradually surfaced. Mr Tien noted that after 2015, the frequency of his work increased significantly. “While damage at FV are generally controlled promptly. Some require collective efforts, while others can be handled independently,” added Mr Tien. This is why he feels confident working with his long-time colleagues and is willing to guide young employees.

Amidst his busy schedule, Mr Tien sometimes forgets that nearly his entire career has been devoted to FV. Nevertheless, he acknowledges the immense joy, life opportunities, and professional fulfilment he gained during his years at FV. This enduring “business relationship” is filled with gratitude that continues to inspire and motivate Mr Tien for the years to come.
